Friendship Meetings for bereaved Parents and Siblings

The Compassionate Friends' support groups offer a safe environment for bereaved parents and siblings to express themselves in the company of others who understand their grief.  All groups listen and share with you. You will feel a great relief as you talk about your child or brother or sister - the way he or she died, his or her place in the life of the family, feelings you may find difficult to express elsewhere.  We support all parents and families, where children may have died at any age and from any cause.

If you are considering attending your first friendship meeting, we extend our hearts and loving thoughts, for we are bereaved as you are, and found it difficult to attend our first meeting.  We want to encourage you to reach out in your own time and in your own way.  It may not be easy, as feelings may be overwhelming, you may ask yourself: "What will it be like? Who will be there? What do they do? Will it make me worse? What will people think of me? Will it make me cry?" This is very normal.  It is also not unusual to find yourself too busy, and not able to make it on the day you had planned to go!

All of this is normal. It may take several regular attendances to find something of value for you. It may not be easy.  But together we will make it ... we are The Compassionate Friends.

We hope you will be able to attend one of our friendship evenings or coffee mornings.  You may wish to telephone us to let us know you are coming, or to call with any questions you may have.

The Compassionate Friends is staffed by volunteers, so if you do reach an answering machine, please leave a message, as you and your call are important to us.
